Council Bluffs: Past, Present and Future

    Join in the Celebrate CB fun! May 8 - 16, 2009


    Friday, May 8th

    Opening Ceremonies

    • Mayoral proclamation and offical signal to turn on the Bayliss Park Fountain at 5:30 p.m.

    • 2009 Grand Marshall Announced

    • The 2009 Nonpareil Community Awards Banquet nominee will be announced. Nominee will be "roasted and toasted on May 17th at the Community Awards Banquet.

    • First Treasure Hunt Clue will be Announced

    • Live Music at Bayliss Park 6:30 to 9:00p.m. R-Factor The Feel Good Band Classic Rock 1960's - 1980's

    • Food! Bayliss park will be food vendor headquarters starting with opening ceremonies. A variety of vendors will be open from 5 to 10 p.m.

    • Barbecue In the Park - Come visit with the BBQ contestants as they prepare for judging on Saturday, May 9th. Set-up begins at 12:00 p.m Friday. Peoples Choice Tonight. Vote for your favorite chicken wing amoung some of the BBQ competitors. $5.00 to participate.

    • Movie in the Park - Free after the band in Bayliss Park

    First Annual Taste of Council Bluffs

    • 11:00 a.m to 9:00 p.m.

    • This two day food festival is located in the wonderful Bayliss Park and is free and open to the public. The festival will feature the great foods available in the Council Bluffs area. Enjoy comfort foods, ethnic foods, BBQ and of course desserts!

    Second Fridays!

    5:00 pm Tour downtown architecture via trolley or walking.


    Saturday, May 9th

    BBQ in the Bluffs THIRD Annual State of Iowa Championship Competition

    • The BBQ Contest is Sponsored by Horseshoe Casino. Come on down and experience the sights and smells of some really good BBQ.

    First Annual Taste of Council Bluffs

    • 11:00 a.m to 9:00 p.m.

    • This two day food festival is located in the wonderful Bayliss Park and is free and open to the public. The festival will feature the great foods available in the Council Bluffs area. Enjoy comfort foods, ethnic foods, BBQ and of course desserts!

    Live Music In The Park

    • Live music will start at 11:00 a.m. and go through the evening!

    • Live local, regional and national artists will be performing all day.

    • Shawn Mayer - NBC Nashville Star Finalist Season 6 Show starts at 7:00 p.m. with The McKenzie River Band and Comedian Rob Barrett. Shawn Mayer will begin at 9:30.


    Tuesday, May 12th

    Clean Sweep! Keep Council Bluffs Beautiful! City Clean Up

    • BRING YOUR GLOVES AND WORKIN' HANDS! Come to Bayliss Park May 12 at 5:30pm. Trash bags will be provided for the clean up- 5:30-7:30pm. Mayor Hanafan and City Council Members will cook for the volunteers. How big is your team this year? Our thanks to Wal-Mart, HGM, and Doll Distributing, sponsors for this event.Mayor Hanafan and City Council Members will cook for the volunteers after the Clean Sweep!

    • Live Music at Bayliss Park 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Kanesville Boys - Bluegrass/Indie/Blues


    Thursday May 14 -Saturday May 16

    Who doesn't love a CARNIVAL?!?

    • Blues Amusements will be present for three days of carnival fun rides, games, and food. Rides will be located on the south portion of Bayliss Park. Thursday May 14th - Saturday May 16th. Carnival starts at 5 p.m. on Thursday. Friday May 15th Carnival Special!! - 1/2 price kiddie rides from 5 to 7 p.m.

    Celebrate CB! People Awards Banquet and Roast.

    • Toast of Mayor Tom Hanafan Mid America Center Tickets are $25.00 each. Contact Courtney at 325-5742

    Ag Committee Cookout in Bayliss Park

    11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Great food and proceeds go toward scholarships

    Saturday, May 16th

    Celebrate CB Parade - 10:30 a.m.

    • Join us Saturday, May 16, for the parade - PAST, PRESENT , FUTURE - downtown starting at 10:30am. This years theme, Past, Present, Future, is in honor of the parades 30th anniversary. The parade route will begin at 8th Avenue, going up Pearl Street to Broadway, then back down to Main Street to Story. Thanks to MidAmerican Energy, Black Hills Energy, Cox Media, CBTV17, First National Bank and the Daily Nonpareil, sponsors for this event.

    The Hokey Pokey - Guinness Book of World Record Attempt

    • Do The Hokey Pokey - At the beginning of the Celebrate CB Parade - Past, Present, Future we will be attempting to make history by breaking a Guinness Book of World Record for the most people doing the hokey pokey in unison. Come one and all and put your right foot in. The attempt will happen right before the start of the parade.

    Children's Activities Faire

    • 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. After the parade visit Bayliss park for carnival rides, food and tons of childrens activities at the 2nd annual Children's Activities Faire.

    • Free goodie bags for first 130 children under the age of 12 courtesy of Celebrate CB!

    • Activities include face painting, art activities, bookmarks, bubbles, bouncy inflatables provided by ridgecrest church, Mini train rids sponsored by UP Museum and an inflatable maze sponsored by Kangaroo Bob. A detailed list will be available here soon!

    Live Music in the Park!

    • 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. High Heel - Classic Rock/Rock/Disco

    Council Bluffs Walking Tours

    12:30 to 1:30 pm. Walking tours of historic homes in downtown Council Bluffs. Tour starts at the Snow House (233 4th Street)
