2009 Grand Marshalls Announced!

The Grand Marshal selection committee has met and has selected four persons to serve as Grand Marshals for this years Celebrate Council Bluffs Parade that will take place on Saturday, May 16th. This year's theme: Past, Present, Future, is in honor of the parades 30th anniversary. The Celebrate Council Bluffs preparation committee thought it would be fitting to have several Grand Marshals to represent Council Bluff's--Past, Present and Future. JadeLynn Townsend was chosen as our Elementary School Grand Marshal. She is twelve and attends 6th Grade at Roosevelt Elementary School. Her teacher Diane Munch nominated JadeLynn because she is happy, friendly and very well spoken. Additionally, JadeLynn is a great peer role model. Jordan Hoffa was chosen as our High School Grand Marshal. She recently graduated from the Youth Leadership program offered through the Chamber of Commerce. Jordan Hoffa was chosen by a vote of all of the Leadership Class and stood out because of her involvement in the Big Brother/Big Sisters program as a big sister. Jordan also sits on the Catholic Diocese of Des Moines Youth Council. She volunteers as a camp counselor for the youth camp in Panora, IA. Jordan also participates in soccer and golf for her school and lifeguards for the Senior Center in her spare time. Jordan is a junior at St. Albert High School. Don Gross, Community Development for the city of Council Bluffs was chosen to represent the Present Council Bluffs Grand Marshal. Don was nominated due to his many significant accomplishments promoting the city of Council Bluffs. He works every day to grow our city's economy, adding jobs and opportunities for current and future residents. Because of his unassuming nature and quiet leadership style, he removes himself from the spotlight, preferring to work while giving the credit to others. That doesn't mean his contributions have gone unnoticed, as is evident by the fantastic changes that are taking place in our community, and have been since he has been in his role. Hazel Gammon, an active community volunteer was chosen as the Past Grand Marshal Representative. A lifetime resident of Council Bluffs, Hazel retired as a director of the American Cancer Society. Tara Slevin, Volunteer Director at Jennie Edmundson Hospital, nominated Hazel for this honor. Hazel could truly represent all three categories - Past, Present, and Future, as at a very young 92 years of age she continues to impact all she comes in contact with at the hospital, her church and throughout the community.

Celebrate with us! Celebrate CB is a Council Bluff Iowa tradition that focuses on the pride of our great community. This years theme "Council Bluffs: Our Past, Present and Future" celebrates the events 30th anniversary.

The events historical event is the annual Celebrate CB Parade on May 16th. Show us, through your float, a celebrating moment in Council Bluffs' Past, Present or Future - or all three!

In addition to the annual parade, this year's week will include exciting events for children and families including a community treasure hunt with great prizes, a Barbecue Contest sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, the FIRST annual Taste of Council Bluffs, live bands including Nashvile Star finalist Shawn Mayer, the Clean Sweep community clean-up event and a chance for our great community to break a Guiness World Record!
